The paw-paw (scientific name Asimina triloba) is a native fruit of St. Louis and usually ready for harvest in August and September. They are usually eaten raw either by itself or blended into baked desserts, ice cream, pancakes or smoothies. The fruits grow on trees that commonly grow in floodplains and shady bottomlands. Paw-paw flowers are pollinated by insects.
